xGraptosedum "Darley Sunshine" uses cellular respiration in order to create energy as it is the only way for plants to do so. Cellular respiration is the process in which Oxygen and glucose is broken down, thus creating Co2, H2o and energy. This process all occurs in the Mitochondria, a cell which both Humans, plants and animals have. The job of the cell is to produce energy with oxygen and glucose and creates ATP (energy).

xGraptosedum "Darley Sunshine" is a hybrid between Graptopetalum and Sedum, so it is not found in the wild. Although, the parent plants, Graptopetalum and Sedum are found in dry regions with low rainfall like Mexico. This hybrid prefers warm climates, with dry soil and preferably volcanic matter. This plant strives best in daytime through 68-85ºF (20-29ºC) and in the night time, through 58-75ºF (14-24ºC).
xGraptosedum "Darley Sunshine" is a hybrid, and is not found naturally in nature. But it is a producer, as it produces energy, its foliage provides shelter and food for small organisms like aphids, insects, birds and more. Also, the leaves of this plant can collect water, for animals to drink as they need it to survive as well for the plant to survive in the harsh environmental conditions it needs. This plants contributes in creating oxygen and intaking Co2 from the atmosphere.
Mostly found in dry and hot areas, Oaxaca is one of the places with the most Graptosedum, as xGraptopetalum "Darley Sunshine" is not found naturally because it is a hybrid.
As a hybrid, xGraptosedum "Darley Sunshine" is very common now days as it is considered as a decorative plant for its easy care and maintenance. The only harm this plant faces are aphids, which are small insects considered plagues for succulents.
Thrives in harsh conditions, based on the climate, the leaves will change color, if in the shade the plant will pick up a greener color, and if placed under the sun, it will gain a red color. Succulents best strive on volcanic substrate, and with their special foliage they collect and store water, meaning that this plant doesn't need much water to survive. One should water the Darley sunshine every 12 days for the best results.
Because of its decorative status, Succulents have been used to decorate many parts of the city, and they serve to enrich the fauna and biodiversity. The Mayans, used succulents which are "Darley Sunshine's" parent plants, during their rituals as they are related to the rain. The ability to store water with their special folliage amazed the mayans, and whenever they needed rain, during their rituals succulents were present.
Because Darley Sunshine is easy to maintain, there is no need to spend a lot of money on water and soil for the plant.
