Welcome to the Department of Broadcast Communication Level IV Phase 2 (Cycle 2) Accreditation Microsite!
The Polytechnic University of the Philippines, as the premier state and people’s university, remains dedicated to empowering communities through education, research, and public service. Guided by its enduring pillars of Truth, Excellence, and Wisdom, the University extends its transformative mission beyond academic spaces through impactful, research-based, and demand-driven extension programs that directly respond to the needs of society.
The Department of Broadcast Communication plays a key role in this mission through its holistic approach to Creative, Critical, and Caring media education. Grounded in community engagement and public service, the department designs and implements extension programs that use the power of communication to inform, educate, and empower marginalized sectors.
Through sustained partnerships with institutions such as the Diocese of Cubao, DepEd Manila, and Fortune High School – Marikina, the department delivers media literacy campaigns, digital content creation workshops, and communication skills trainings tailored to the needs of students, educators, and community advocates. These programs are not only responsive to community demands, but are also anchored in faculty-led research that ensures relevance, impact, and sustainability.
DBC also maintains strong ties with advocacy-driven and media-based institutions such as 350 Pilipinas, Akademiya at Bayan Kontra Disimpormasyon at Dayaan (ABKD), Aliw Broadcasting Corporation, Media Serbisyo Production Corporation / TeleRadyo Serbisyo, Pelikulove, and Tudla Productions. These collaborations allow DBC to bridge academic learning and real-world practice—integrating climate communication, fact-checking and anti-disinformation efforts, inclusive storytelling, and civic journalism into its extension programs.
These initiatives are not only aligned with PUP’s institutional goals, but also reflect the DBC’s unwavering commitment to shaping media practitioners who use their platforms creatively, critically, and compassionately in service of the Filipino people.
Together, PUP and DBC prove that academic institutions can be powerful agents of change—nurturing community-centered communication, championing research-based engagement, and building a future where education, media, and service go hand in hand.
