Today we will experiment with brush techniques and graphite shading techniques and begin developing a series of color charts, inspired by the Bauer brothers. We will use the acrylic inks in primary colors plus black or sepia to develop the charts.
to share your work with the class, upload a 72 dpi jpeg of your graphite drawing to this google jamboard:
BEFORE PHOTOGRAPHING YOUR ARTWORK, please do the following:
take a few minutes to find the best lighting for your artwork
hold your camera parallel to your artwork so that it is not foreshortened
crop your image
adjust lighting if necessary
adjust file size and save as jpeg (a large file will take a long time to upload and will slow down our class discussion)
For your exercise this week, you will copy one of the photographs by Karl Blossfeldt and practice shading techniques.
Blossfeldt (German, 1865-1932) was a photographer, sculptor, and teacher. He took these extraordinary photographs to teach his students at the Kunstgewerbeschule (art school) about design and patterns found in nature.
