faux finished "foxed" paper
applying a light wash to the back ground of a drawing
establishing an imaginary light source and practicing shading techniques on skull sketches
hatching and stippling (we'll work on this next week since we didn't get to it in class)
adding white highlights using conte or white ink (we'll work on this next week since we didn't get to it in class)
In Class: We will practice working from a 2D reference to measure proportions and angles. You will begin to draw and shade the skull.
Sketch the animal for your final project, paying attention to the composition, placement of text (if you choose to include any), the background (whether complex or spare), the additional information that you may choose to include (such as buds, leaves, flowers, and fruit for a botanical study), or any narrative information or setting.
Experiment with different approaches. YOUR FINAL PROJECT will consist of three compositions completed in color, size not to exceed 8x10, that are consistent in style.
