Preparing & Importing Audio
IMPORTANT!!
The Library Manager will automatically read MP3 tags & fill in the the artist & title information.
Prior to import, audio files MUST be a either 192kbps, 256kbps MP3, or 1411kbps WAVE files.
1. Prepare Audio before import
Trim & normalize files for best sound.
Convert all audio files if they are not the proper bit rate.
Do your music files have metadata tags for song title & artist?
2. Organize audio files before import
Decide on cart number ranges for each audio type: Spots, Liners, IDs, Music, etc.
Decide how music will be categorized (by genre, or decade, or current hits/recurrent hits, etc).
3. Import your audio by folder for easy Mass Renaming of audio files.
1. PREPARING AUDIO FOR IMPORT
TRIM & NORMALIZE AUDIO FILES: For tight, professional sound, audio files should be trimmed & normalized prior to import. If your station does not already have an application that you use for audio production & editing, contact support for the Arrakis Mass Audio Conversion software.
MP3 BIT RATES:
Are your audio files the correct bit rates.
If you don't know, check in Windows Explorer, 'Details' view & enable the Bit Rate column.
There are many free audio conversion applications available online. The Arrakis Mass Audio Conversion software will, also, convert your audio to the proper format.
MUSIC METADATA:
Are the music files properly tagged?
Check in Windows Explorer, 'Details' view.
If your files are tagged, you will see the song title & artist information in the Title, & Contributing artist columns.
Files not tagged? Artist & Title information or Ad information in the file name?
That's okay! You may use a third party renaming app to add a cart number of up to 8 digits to the file name, or do so manually in Windows Explorer.
For example: Rename 'Joe Schmoes Bakery.wav' to '600000+Joe Schmoes Bakery.wav'
The plus (+) symbol informs Xtreme that the characters preceding the (+) are the cart number. The information following will be automatically placed in the title field.
2. ORGANIZE YOUR AUDIO BEFORE IMPORT
For easy searching, decide in advance a cart number range according to file type &/or music genre. Cart numbers may have up to 8 alpha/numeric digits.
For example: Spots = 600000, Current Hits = 100000, Classic Rock = 200000. Liners, & so on.
We recommend that you create individual folders for each file type.
In addition, separating your music by music category to be used will also simplify mass categorization.
NOTE: Only 1000 Songs may in a category.
3. IMPORT AUDIO BY FOR EASY MASS RENAME
Xtreme has a MASS RENAME feature.
If you import your audio by type, such as: music categories, liners, spots, etc, it's much easier & faster to re-cart number, place music into categories, etc, en mass, rather than hunt & peck to select multiple carts or edit them one at a time.
Note: The mass rename feature only uses numbers.
For initial setup, copying your audio directly into the Library folder, located in the C:>Arrakis>Xtreme>Library folder, is the quickest way to import.
Copy audio into the Library folder according to audio type/genre.
Copy ONLY the audio, not the type/genre folders. The software does not recognize sub directories in the Library folder.
Right-click on any image > 'Open image in new tab' to enlarge any gif.
HOW TO RE-LOAD THE DIRECTORY WITHOUT RESETTING THE SOFTWARE
Open Xtreme, if closed, to load the new audio into the Library.
If Xtreme is open, go to: Menu>Setup & click on the Load Directory button. Xtreme will reload the Library to include the new audio added to the Library folder.
NOTE: You do not HAVE to follow the suggested steps above. You may copy all of your audio files into the Library folder at once, if you wish.
