I set-up a multitrack recording system before our first show, using my Scarlett 4i4 interface. I used the 4 inputs to record a stereo track, wireless microphones and our comms system. I used 4 mix buses in the desk to send to 4 local outputs to go into my Scarlett, where software on my laptop called Vor would use these channels alongside a phone video feed of the show. I also connected my laptop to the same network as the lighting desk, allowing EOS cues to show up on the recording.
To record comms, I used an SM57 inside of a spare comms headset in the control room. I ran this into a spare input on the desk, which had a double purpose as it allowed me to hear comms through my monitor headphones. This made it easier for me as I didn't have to juggle two headsets and could hear the DSM cues through the desk.
My initial recording on Thursday evening didn't have perfectly balanced levels as it was more of a test. I used this to perfect the last two show recordings to have one of each cast.
Last cast B performance
Last cast A performance.
I spun the camera around before the show to record myself doing the final mic check. At this stage, most EQ and settings are set so it is just a case of checking that they are still working as intended. I used the sound from the desk through Vor.
Oscar's GoPro recorded us during Show 5 (Saturday Afternoon) to get a view of the operator's desk while on the show.
He also recorded timelapses of us during tech week, including our Lx fitup, set build and focus.
This then continued to plotting, and then tech rehearsals.
