Auckland Transport's Safe Speed team is heading to the motu next week to engage with residents about proposed alterations to the speed limits on various roads. The consultations are part of the Katoa, Ka Ora Draft Speed Management Plan for Auckland.
Key Proposed Changes Include:
Shoal Bay Road, spanning from Tryphena to the Wharf, is set to have its limit reduced to 40 km/h, except for the vicinity of Mulberry Grove School where it would be 30 km/h.
Pohutukawa Place would be limited to 30 km/h, as would Rosalie Bay Rd at the intersection opposite Mulberry Grove School
Ocean View Road at Kaitoke and Sandhills Road at Medlands would be decreased from 100 km/h to 40 km/h.
Similarly, Motairehe Road and Kawa road are proposed to change from 100 km/h to 40 km/h.
A section of Aotea Road at Port Fitzroy, between 150m south of Glenfern Road and 600m south of the same, is set to reduce to 40 km/h.
Blind Bay Road around Okupu is proposed to be 40 km/h, while the picturesque road tracing the coast at Whangaparapara would adjust to 60 km/h.
Auckland Transport elucidated the rationale behind the changes, noting that many drivers already adhere to speeds below the current limits due to the roads' characteristics, like speed humps or winding stretches. "The proposed change aligns to current speeds, providing a safer and more appropriate speed limit," the organization mentioned.
