Modular Fabrication System

Fabrication has seen an industrial revolution over the past few decades. As of 2018, there is a huge market for 3D printing and rapid prototyping. This project involves designing and integrating the three essential technologies of modern manufacturing into one single unit, (1) 3D printing, (2) Laser engraving/cutting, and (3) Computer Numerical Control (CNC) milling and routing. All three of these machines require a rigid and precise movement system. The task is divided into sub teams namely [1] Frame Team, tasked with developing the the XYZ movement systems, [2] Electronics Team, tasked with the selection, development, and integration of motor control, user interface, electronic control of the various heads, and the multiple logic boards used to control and monitor the machine, and [3] Head Team, tasked with developing the quick-swap head mechanism and all of it's attachments.
