Technology in Pre-K

This school year 2018-2019, I am teaching Pre-K. This is their first year in school and they are only four years old. It is very interesting to see how different they are from a kindergarten student who is five years old.

These children have always had technology in their world. They know how to operate an iPad or phone better than some of their parents. They know how to swipe and click, but some do not even have coloring books or crayons at home. They are lacking the fine motor skills they need for real life skills like zipping their own jackets or putting on their name tags. Some students can't hold a pencil correctly, probably because they have never tried and no one has tried to show them.

Since technology is such a huge part of their world, I am thankful that I have a ClearTouch Panel in my classroom provided by my district's technology department.

Last school year, 2017-2018, I was part of the pilot program initiated by the district technology team. They purchased one panel per campus and had them in different grade levels and departments all over the district. It was a great learning tool for the kindergarten students and they enjoyed learning while incorporating this wonderful technology tool.
