QRSS Test ChartÂ
Ben PA2ST produced a nice QRSS grab using graduated power output levels to show the real world effect of the changes of RF power output versus readability on a typical QRSS grabber. I thought it was so good that it deserved a page of it's own to act as a useful reference chart, analogous to the old TV test cards of old. It takes quite a bit of additional power to make a difference as you can see. A Youtube video can also be seen here.
PA2OHH also did some interesting power level simulations using the QRSS3 mode. QRSS3 means an equivalent "dit" length of 3 seconds, as opposed to PA2ST's 6 seconds. Remember that a doubling of the dit length improves the signal to noise ratio by 3db. QRSS6 mode is the de-facto standard for HF band usage to fill up a grabber screen.
