I can't remember if it was the year 2000 or 2001 but the notorious punk band the Anti Nowhere League were coming to play in town. It was a place called the Cue Club in Herne Bay, Kent,England. (Now defunct). I seem to recall arriving at about 12 PM on a Saturday and the event was pretty much a twelve hour "punk-a-thon". Lots of bands were playing and the were darn good. The sound system was good too.
The hype around the band had obviously scared the local authorities, who in their wisdom had parked up a whole chain of ambulances and cop cars along the sea front, expecting some kinda riot ! Nothing could have been further than the truth. The place was packed with pensioners ! Yeah lots of folk in thir 60's and 70's, all sat at the bar with their glasses of red wine and reminsicing about the old days of 1976, and of wearing their daring T-Shirts and spiky hair. Of course none of them had any hair left these days. I seem to recall Roi Pearce was in the crowd, of The Last Resort / 4Skins fame. The various bands played, ANL was last on the list to close the show, and of course everyone was really waiting for them to play their most notorious song - "So What". Yeah the one that the cops / obscene publications squad once confiscated back in the day.
That moment finally arrived, the crowd loved it, and the stage was invaded. The band were happy too. There was zero violence or incidences so the local cops just got paid overtime at taxpayers expense and went home. Punks 1 - Cops - Nil.
Samson the Fox. As you can see he's a lazy fox. I asked him to mow the lawn and he's only done half of the job ! Instead he is sunbathing. That fox gets all over town and is a bit of a celebrity. He's fairly tame. I remember one night in November 2023 he was wandering the streets and I bumped into a YL who had seen him. She came out with biscuits in her hand and I remarked "oh so you've met Samson then". We started talking, and we both fed him biscuits before he ran away. I showed her this photo of him in my garden. She then remarked, oh so you call him Samson ? Yes I said. She replied that from now on she'll call him the same. And so Samson the Fox became his official title.
A Chinese FTD. Found this washed up on the beach on the Isle of Sheppey. Wow, my callsign is so famous that the Chinese have named a "thing" after me.
In my opinion if Icom ever made great handheld rigs again, they would look like this. Quansheng UV 5K and UV K6 owners will get the joke.
