May 2021 - COVID-19 was hitting India hard in April/May this year, averaging about 4000 deaths a day. We learned about Siddhartha Compassion's efforts to give away oxygen tanks in Gaya, India; so the Foundation decided to contribute $920.00 to this urgent need. Each tank costs about $420.00. Oct 2021 - The Ho Chi Minh City government ordered 6 pm curfew in late July after a series of failed strict social distancing enforcement efforts. On August 20th, the City imposed complete lockdown for what originally planned to be 3 weeks (https://www.reuters.com/world/asia-pacific/vietnams-biggest-city-issues-stay-home-order-covid-19-deaths-soar-2021-08-20/). It wasn't until October that the City started to loosen up the restrictions. The lack of planning and considerations for daily essential needs resulted in food shortage, job and income loss, and public outcry... Desperation caused thousands of residents to plead with guards and break through barricades to flee the City (https://www.reuters.com/world/the-great-reboot/we-are-tired-workers-flee-vietnams-largest-city-long-lockdown-eases-2021-10-04). Among the quiet chaos, various philanthropy groups, large and small, organized and adhoc, stepped up to provide foods and supplies to Covid-isolation camps, hospitals, front line workers, patients, and poor families... We learned about efforts of a cousin and her small circle of friends to help the needy within their limited capacity. The Foundation donated $500.00 to these compassionate gestures. The group used the Foundation's contribution in 3 different events; below are their reports.
October 2nd - Delivery of 120 cooked meals to the isolation camp "Tây Bắc Lân" and 140 meals to poor residents around Hóc Môn District.
