Research

My research mainly focuses on tropical cyclones. I enjoy using both models (such as WRF and FV3) and observational data (like airborne radar) to study TC structure. One of my recent interests has been using observations to validate model hurricane structure. Models are a great tool and are becoming better every year, but it's important to understand their weaknesses, and make sure that "correct" forecasts are right for the right reasons.

I also enjoy learning about the local weather and climate wherever I live, and exploring historical events to have context for current and future forecasts. I am hoping in the near future to do some model forecasts of historical Florida hurricanes, as Irma in 2017 showed how vulnerable much of the state is, and how many areas haven't had a "big one" in a very long time.
