Conference Presentations

Here is a list of selected conference presentations in approximate chronological order

Upcoming Presentations

AMS Tropical Conference (Spring 2022): I will be presenting (probably in person!) at the AMS Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology next spring in New Orleans, LA.

AMS Annual Meeting: I will be presenting HAFS-B 2021 real-time results (probably remotely) at the AMS Annual Meeting in January 2021.

HFIP Annual Meeting: I will be discussing HAFS-B 2021 results as well as HAFS physics developments at the (remote) Hurricane Forecast Improvement Project (HFIP) annual meeting in November 2021.

Past Presentations

AMS 34th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology

I presented (remotely) at the 34th Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology in May 2021. I talked about a research study looking at some of the factors that led to Hurricane Dorian's somewhat unexpected intensification over the Eastern Caribbean, as well as some of the factors that kept the track offshore from Florida. My extended abstract and summary slide is below.

AMS 101st Annual Meeting (January 2021, Remote)

I participated remotely in the 101st AMS Annual Meeting in January 2021. I presented results from the HAFS-globalnest real-time experiment. Below are my extended abstract and summary slides.

You can view my abstract and the presentation video here.

AMS 100th Annual Meeting (January 2020, Boston, MA)

I attended the AMS Centennial Annual Meeting in Boston, MA, in January 2020. I attended a short course on the Community Common Physics Package (CCPP), and also gave a presentation on the 2019 real-time HAFS-globalnest results.

Here is my talk

AMS 99th Annual Meeting (January 2019, Phoenix, AZ)

I gave several presentations at the 99th annual American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting in Phoenix, AZ (2 of my own and 2 for colleagues due to the government shutdown. I gave a talk about 2018 3-km hfvGFS forecasts from the Atlantic Hurricane Season (a project I collaborated with GFDL on), and a poster on a high-resolution set of ensemble simulations of Hurricane Michael (2018).

Here is my talk

The poster is shown below.

AMS 33rd Conference on Hurricanes and Tropical Meteorology (April 2018, Ponte Vedra, FL)

I presented an oral presentation on 3-km fvGFS hindcasts from the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season), and a poster presentation on 2-km fvGFS simulations of the rapid intensification and evolution of Hurricane Matthew (2016).

Here is my talk

The poster is shown below.

HFIP Teleconference (February 2018)

This was a teleconference for the Hurricane Forecast Improvement Project, showing detailed verification and analysis of 3-km fvGFS hindcasts from the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

GFDL Poster Expo (January 2018, Princeton, NJ)

This was a poster presentation showing the results of 3-km fvGFS hindcasts from the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season. The presentation is below (as a PDF, so unfortunately the animations don't work).
