I make birch bark hats modeled after a series of hats found in central Europe (modern day Germany, Austria, and France) dating from the Late Halstatt to early La Tène periods.

The seams on this one are a little wonky because I used fabric from a thrift store coat. The wool is felted, which makes it a good rain hood.
I tablet-wove the wool trim. The tassel dances fetchingly on or above the rump, depending on the height of the wearer.

History Channel Vikings did this, Spring 2022. So who had branches on her head before the TV vikings?! Me. This probably horrifies some SCA reenactors, and I would not wear it at an SCA event-- but I still have one foot in the merc world, where fun happens in different ways.
