Service Learning Project
I created a custom chair for a client who is a little person and did not own a chair that fit her well. This created many challenges in holding her baby and working comfortably - therefore impacting many occupations, especially her instrumental activities of daily living and work. I worked to create a custom chair for her. She can now sit down while holding her baby and do so without needing assistance. Her chair is also now ergonomically correct and provides great support for her lower back

Reflection:
I greatly enjoyed working with this client and building this chair for her. She got teary-eyed just thinking about having a custom chair so she can hold her baby - something I’m sure most mothers don’t even consider as a potential issue. Also the gentleman who built the chair was so kind and accommodating. I will certainly work with him again in creating custom chairs or adaptive wooden devices, and/or work to create my own. I’m so amazed at what a significant difference it can make in someone’s life.
