Teaching Towards Transformational Change encourages students to explore and analyze art mindfully. It emphasizes genuine connection by incorporating mindful listening, moment-to-moment discussions, fostering curiosity, embracing diverse cultures, and encouraging thoughtful reflection. This curriculum pairs mindfulness art practices and culturally responsive teaching practices to develop an art education curriculum that will empower students and strengthen cultural ties. Engaging in reflective art practices will further enrich the creative process by prompting students to consider different perspectives and delve into artwork that explores the intricate nature of human expression, identity, and heritage.
Hello. My name is Ashley Riemann, and I am an Art Educator. I have a Bachelor's in Fine Arts and Photography from Longwood University, a Master's in Teaching from Liberty University and a Master's in Mindfulness Studies from Lesley University.
The art studio is a special place for students to develop motor, language, decision-making, risk-taking, and social and emotional learning skills. Creating passionate lifelong learners occurs when students explore, discover, and actively collaborate in the classroom. When students engage in mindful art-making, they are naturally present in the moment. Authenticity transpires with each color selection, the line they draw, and the brush they select. Creating a compassionate, inclusive community of artists allows students' creative spirit to be recognized, allowing scholars to stay engaged and express themselves artistically.
