This curriculum consists of mindful art practices and culturally responsive pedagogy. This approach celebrates each individual learner and empowers them to process information, retain knowledge, and explore new ideas by accessing an artistic flow state through mindfulness, creating a transformative art studio.
Starting every lesson with a secular mindfulness meditation practice, such as mindful visualization, arrival meditation, or meditative drawing, is intended to support learners in becoming present and engaged in their journey ahead. I have seen firsthand how Mindfulness art practices merged with culturally responsive instruction can nurture cultural competence when executed intentionally.
My intentions for this curriculum are to empower students to express themselves and assist teachers in implementing inclusive and nurturing lessons where students comfortably explore their creativity and receive unwavering support from their teachers and peers. As students and teachers venture upon their educational journey, they will cultivate a genuine enthusiasm for inquiry and exploration. Forging meaningful cultural connections with not only their peers but, most importantly, themselves, will illuminae their unique artistic style and give them a voice through their art.
