Unpacking Amazon’s Fulfillment Operations
At its core, fulfillment is about getting almost any product to the customer in the fastest, best way. Fulfillment Operations follow the end-to-end process to get products out the door: inventory storage, order picking and packing, and finally, shipping to the customer. The operation runs on the Amazon Fulfillment Centers, where employees synchronize with advanced robotics and systems.
Amazon's fulfillment operations are enormous, and their structure is colossal. It runs hundreds of fulfillment centers, which average about 800,000 square feet, and employs over 1,500 full-time associates. A network of sortation centers supports these centers, receive centers, and specialty buildings that handle high volumes of specific categories of items or peak times.
