Geoff Watts SK

Geoff Watts G8BCH / G0EVW maintained this site for many years. He sadly went silent key on 4th April 2020 aged 77 years. Dearly loved Husband of Mary, Father and Grandad. President of the South Dorset Radio Society and South Dorset Repeater Group. Geoff was a tireless advocate of amateur radio and encouraged many to take up the hobby. He was a true gentleman who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.

Geoff (G0EVW / G8BCH) was very much respected in the Ham Radio World and as a man. It was a pleasure to serve on the SDRG Committee with Geoff at the helm and to share the RSGB news reading service with him on Sunday mornings. I will never forget when Geoff and I went to Southampton to take our Morse Code test together. We always remembered fondly how we both passed the exam despite the very odd sounding morse code the examiner sent to us !!! Missing and will always miss Geoff very much. He was a great help to me in many ways. The airwaves will never be the same again.

This is indeed a sad time for all Hams, remembering the nice times we have shared with Geoff. He came to my house and showed me how to tune my FT101, then transmitted the Monday night net on top band. He was satisfied with how the station worked then handed over to me. He was a TOP man, a real gentleman indeed. In 1963 at Melcombe Regis school we both built crystal sets under the instructions of the teacher Mr. Cross. We will really miss Geoff.

I will always remember Geoff for his friendliness and kindness. He was an example for me to try to follow in our hobby of amateur radio and in life in general. He was a true gentleman who will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
