Reflection

Reflection emerges as a crucial skill for educators, serving as a cornerstone in the learning process. Teachers can leverage the reflective process to assess and adapt their instructional methods. In a learner-centered environment, students also benefit from reflection, enabling them to review their learning, establish goals, and take an active role in their educational journey. Throughout the semester, opportunities to experiment with new approaches abound, but the pivotal aspect lies in the chance for thoughtful reflection.

In the context of my STaR Hero project, I found myself adjusting lesson plans multiple times. Reflecting on the activity in relation to standards and topics proved instrumental in maintaining alignment. Crafting lesson plans, especially from scratch, demands time and effort. Many public schools rely on basal programs, aligned with state standards and equipped with corresponding lesson plans. As educators, it is essential to emphasize these requirements while finding ways to connect them to student interests and instructional levels.

Fostering engagement by aligning instruction with student interests creates a positive emotional connection to learning, enhancing retention. Allowing proficient students to take on teaching roles not only improves retention rates but also reinforces the idea of a classroom as a collective learning space. This reciprocal dynamic, where students become teachers and teachers become perpetual learners, contributes to a rich and meaningful educational experience.
