A rally held on May 2, 2024, to protest the glorification of Hamas by some on campus and to show support for IUB Jewish students.
The Alliance for Israel (formerly called IU Faculty & Staff for Israel) was founded in the aftermath of the attack by Hamas, the terrorist group (officially designated as such by the US State Department) in control of Gaza, on Israel on October 7, 2023. They murdered 1,200 civilians and took 254 innocent people of all ages from Israel into Gaza as hostages, many of whom they raped, tortured, and/or murdered. Since then, there also has been a dramatic rise of antisemitism on college campuses in North America, including at Indiana University, and particularly on the Bloomington campus.
The Alliance is a diverse group of individuals who seek to counter false narratives about Israel, foster the return of a civil exchange of knowledge and viewpoints on campus, and protect Jewish students, faculty, staff, and institutions from the documented rise of antisemitism on campus. We seek to:
(1) counter misinformation and propaganda that is antisemitic or seeks to deny Israel’s right to exist
(2) advocate to protect academic freedom when it is imperiled by anti-Zionist activism on campus
(3) uphold the principles of free speech and respectful dialogue at Indiana University
(4) defend university policies and practices that protect faculty, staff, students, and campus visitors from antisemitic harm
(5) encourage individuals to report bias and ethics violations to IU administrators
