During the ideation party, I had several “ah-ha moments.” The first was that I need to come up with a singular solution. My original solution was to have a short PD session (I named “Starting the Change”) on each PD day and do an activity that will better support, encourage, teach, or influence educators for technology usage in the classroom. That being said, I think I will go back to the drawing board, as this will require more than one session and much more planning if I wanted to actually “test” this sort of prototype. The wrong theory thinking also reminded me of what I greatly resent as an educator from those above me. It also reminded me to be sensitive to all levels of innovation that my audience could potentially be at. After the question about the term “connotation,” I also plan to do some research on this topic and think of ways to simultaneously help change this while providing a skill set, as well as peer/PLC support. I think I need to change my thinking to a more narrowed lens for the solution, as I only need one. This does not mean there can’t be ample solutions, but I need to choose a simple and effective solution as of now and worry about bigger things later.
Am I on the right track?
Dr. Warr's Response
Yes, you are on the right track!
I actually think that your idea of negative connotations with technology would be a super interesting direction for ed tech research--especially after the pandemic, now that teachers have been forced to use tech more.
If you are ever interested in doing some research on this, let me know--it could also be something we do together for your internship. But only if you are interested in going that direction.
And the Signature Project Process
In Conclusion,
the story of If You Plant a Seed, (on the home page) focuses on what outcomes you will culture depending on what types of seeds or attitudes you plant. It is my goal to plant seeds of positivity, openness, encouragement, and support for educators with the uses and implementation of technology. Only with a growth mindset and willingness to learn and work together, will the education system be able to conquer this ever-growing problem.
