Intellectual Property is portrayed in a couple of different ways in the Alien: Covenant movie. The main portrayal is seen with the Weyland-Yutani corporation that is involved in the creation and study of alien lifeforms. David, one of the main characters of the movie, along side with Walter are synthetic humans and the biological engineering and knowledge of making these synthetic humans are examples of IP being used in the movie. Weyland-Yutani also bioengineered and created xenomorphs, neomorphs, and praetomorphs. They also have engineered and made spaceships like the one seen in the movie the USCSS Covenant and the concept of spaceships is IP. Weyland-Yutani also has medical research and weapons development that are seen with the use of said weapons and medical research is seen as limited and outdated given the year that this movie takes place in. Finally the overall information gathered from all the experiments that have been conducted. Special Order 937, which is a programming to have all xenomorphs captured and kept alive.
As it goes for the idea of synthetic humans like depicted in the movie we are likely 50 years away from recreating that give or take a few years. This is due to needing an advancement in neuroscience studies to be able to give synthetic humans a consciousness. Humans would also need a breakthrough in AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), Robotics and material science, synthetic biology and tissue engineering to be able to recreate a synthetic human as real looking and seeming as David from the movie. The way David created the Xenomorphs and that knowledge to recreate a life form like that is still very far away most likely over 100 years away. This is due to a mixture of a creature like a xenomorph having so many fictional aspects like acid blood, cross species DNA absorption, and all the other alien like features it has. Along side these fictional aspects of the xenomorph there are also ethical and legal barriers that prevent creatures like a xenomorph from being created which would violate major international biosafety agreement. It would also be considered as a biological weapon of mass destruction and any lab that would try making this would be shut down immediately. The USCSS Covenant and the overall concept of spaceships is still very far away due to our lack of technology. Especially since the USCSS Covenant is depicted to have many very advanced features like terraforming, cryosleep, fusion power, and interstellar propulsion. These are all concepts that are currently between conceptual, experimental, or theoretical. The concept of the weapons used in the movie are all mostly current technology like the firearms and flamethrower, however the bioengineered weapons and targeting tech is something we are about 20 years off of recreating if there weren't laws in place making them illegal. Special Order 937, shows the obsession of Weyland-Yutani corporation with xenomorphs since they programmed all the robots on the ship to keep all xenomorphs alive to bring back to earth to make a profit.
