Alien: Covenant does not contain significant portrayals of computer and network security in the way that we do today. Instead, it arguably takes a different approach. David is a synth who was mistreated by his creator, which caused him to develop the idea that all human life must be extinguished. A standard attack on computing and networked systems targets fundamental weaknesses, and while there was no instigator to the attack, David's sentience served as a critical weakness that allowed a disruption of intended operation to occur. In addition, at the end of the movie David takes Walter's place aboard the Covenant, exploiting a weakness in the system that is the Covenant's crew: Lack of sufficient verification of the identity of its individuals, particularly the synthetic crew.
