Outcome A.
For my assignment I decided to analyse a song called “The dying Light” by an English artist called Sam Fender. For this I spoke about how he uses rhetorical analysis to draw in listeners through emotion and honesty to create a voice for people and a change. I was able to explain what ethos, Kairos and pathos is and then explain how these links into the song and the way that Sam chooses to write and word things. I was also able to give facts to explain why he chose to write songs about the topics that he did and how what he is saying is true and can have a big effect on the people who listen to him.
Outcome B.
This assignment started from the work we did together in class. We were able to get into groups to create different rhetorical analysis, which was helpful to give us practice for creating this assignment as we were able to give each other ideas and discuss feedback. Also, we were given the opportunity to have peer review of a rough draft before submitting the final essay. This meant that we were able to get ideas of what works and what doesn’t, from reading others work and vice versa. Lastly, the work was helped by the research that I did. Being able to get the facts and a deeper knowledge of the subject allowed me to create a piece that is accurate.
Outcome D.
This assignment actually allowed me to learn how to better structure my sentences and paragraphs. At home in England, I was taught different sentence structure types and how best to apply them when writing an essay like this. However, after receiving peer feedback, I realised that the American structure is different, and I would have to adjust my writing to better suit the audience.
Outcome G.
I chose to write about a person that has had a big impact in my life. It showed me just how “patriotic” and proud, I and others from my home city are. Because of this I am able to connect well to the music that Sam writes to be able to analyse it well. When doing my research about the songs and when I was deciding what song to choose to write about, I was able to understand hope much the concepts relate to my life back home. From everything that my parents and family have told me about growing up and what I have heard in school and the news. It made me think about how everything we have been surrounded with, true or not, is part of a system of beliefs vs. facts and how this can effect so many people in different ways.
