1) The piece is an advert for a new Apple Watch. Although it is a video advert, there isn't any pictures to go with it. It appears with phone calls and the 'subtitles' of the call in the middle. As the advert uses 3 different stories of people in life threatening situations, calling 991 for help, I think that it is particularly powerful to not have any images of this. By just having the phone call in the background, it gives the audience a chance to imagine what their situations are like and how it would feel to them if it was them stuck in the situations. It's a way to play on people's emotions to make them think and reflect, therefore, in turn, promoting the benefits of purchasing the watch.
2) Apple's target audience typically tends to be younger-middle aged people, specifically usually students, however, in this particular advert, I think that they may be targeting the middle aged-older population. I believe that it is still targeted somewhat towards the younger generations, but I think that this advert is more likely to capture the eye of parents (for their children or themselves), as a safety precaution, and also the older generation, as it can be more common for them to have some kind of accident like a fall, when alone, and not be able to reach a phone. However, if they had the Apple watch, then they would be able to call for help when they needed it, rather than having to potentially wait for someone to fins them. This could end up being the difference between life and death.
3)The piece uses pathos to appeal to the audience. It plays on their heartstrings and makes them evaluate if they were in the same or similar situations, what they would do. By doing this it allows them to create a narrative that the product, in this case the Apple Watch, could help them out, therefore leading them to purchase it. The 3 anecdotes in the advertisement, delivered with real emotion and unsettling imagery, accomplished more than just promoting the Apple Watch. They used pathos to assure you that you would have a silent guardian angel on your wrist that can count down the seconds and perhaps even be a life saver in the event of catastrophe.

The #MeToo movement is a movement that was set up and founded by Tarana Burke in 2006, to help empower women to speak up and share their stories on sexual violence. It uses peoples personal testimonies, inclusive language, the platform of social media, challenging social norms, and calls to action. The movement including a hashtag in its name, creates a space of community for dialogues, stories and visibility. This then helps to invite in a lot of diverse voices and stories, relating to the community of sexual violence survivors, emphasising that the issue isn't just common to one area, that it actually occurs in every gender, race, and class. Stories are often told and it is clear that a lot of them include power imbalances and what goes against social norms and cultural attitudes, especially in the 21st Century. Speaking on the problems and situations that are still occurring, brings them to light to help make people stand up against it and make a change. Advocating for reform and seeking help makes people feel less alone about their experiences. The #MeToo movement has had a lot of celebrities speak up and show their support, which helps other victims and survivors to realise that it unfortunately can happen to anyone, and it's nothing that they should feel ashamed about or feel like is their fault. Also, the fact that it is a hashtag, means that it can reach a big audience all around the world as it is on social media, so it is an easy community to find. It helps people to tell their stories easily, and if they wish, anonymously. By having this option, people still have the safety and freedom to tell about their experiences, but without people they know (or don't know) finding out who they are.
Having the sense of widespread awareness, solidarity, empowerment, and policy changes happen with the movement, means that women feel safe to speak up and get justice for what has happened to them. By doing so, the people committing the crime gets investigated and (hopefully) caught, and given punishment for their actions. By doing this, it stops the cycle of the violence to still be committed in work places, relationships, etc. Having a change in the system that olds people accountable for their actions allows people to have a sense of safety and hope that the violence will stop.
Challenges still remain under this topic, but by being able ti have a space and community that is able to open up and talk about it, and influence changes creates a better environment for people to live in safely.
