Short description: The objective is to model and control sub-transmission areas of the power grid to prevent congestion on transmission lines. The modeling of these local areas is based on power transmission distribution factors (PTDFs). Control actions include the (partial) curtailment of renewable energy generation and the use of energy storage devices. Power flows in specific areas are monitored in real-time by simulating the electrical grid encompassing these zones. Each zone consists of buses (nodes) and branches (edges), with some buses hosting generators and potentially batteries. A dedicated controller manages each zone, making decisions regarding the operation of generators and batteries within its area.
