The Lighthouse is a Level where the player has to go to a lightouse after a shipwreck, but a shark trying to hunt him down. At the end a dark secret will be revealed.
I worked in this prototype as:
Level Designer
CAPTURES
LEVEL BREAKDOWN
REFERENCES AND NARRATIVE
FIRST APPROACH
For this prototype I tried to give myself some limitations or objectives to accomplish as a designer and I used them as my Level Golden Rules.
LAYOUTS
I took this D&D ship map and simplified it to suit my purposes on the level.
The Landmark should be seen and unseen from the indside to create tension.
The core mechanics of jumping and croaching needed to be introduced.
The light of the lighthouse will iluminate the darker zones to create more tension.
I wanted two paths to go beneath the boat
I wanted to create a scene with a survivor.
I want the player to have a clear view of the platforming path to the lighthouse and think how to get there.
I made this section testing in engine so the jumps and length of the path to the lighthouse wasn't very long. My objectives where:
I wanted the player to use the lighthouse light to time the jumps for scary/tense situation.
To make kind of a jump scare scene with the shark
To use the sinking rocks I scripted for the secret path for extra difficulty
I wanted this part of the level to be short and to the point. My objective at this point was:
To reveal what is going on in the story and end it
To make sense why the Lighthouse was the objective, besides the obvious need to survive of the character.
