Season Summary

This was an incredible group of men to coach. We won our first game against Hampton-Dumont 24-0. Our second game was a hot night-much like our loss to Webster city in 2016. We jumped on them 20-0 in the first quarter and then fell into a slump for almost 2 quarters as our tailback got hurt. With the score 20-14 late in the third our defense held Clear Lake out of the end zone inside the 10 yard line for 4 downs. We then went on an almost 8 minute 95 yard drive that ended in a touchdown. 26-14. The third game featured Webster City, our only loss last season. We jumped on them early and often building a 30-0 lead at halftime! Now at 3-0, we told the guys we were in the playoffs and needed to win out to achieve the ultimate goal (Undefeated Season). After watching the varsity against Green County, we used man to man coverage to shut down Green County’s team, which the coaches told us was their best team in a long time 20-0. Our fullback, was lost in this game to a broken leg and had contributed half our rushing total. This team suffered some very crippling injuries that really caught up to us, especially the last 8 minutes of the last game. With a 5-1 record it’s hard to be too disappointed, but we all were, the night Humboldt erased an 18-point lead going into the 4th quarter to beat us 22-18. It was a bizarre finish, as we had dominated the field for the first 3 quarters. It was very difficult to come to the end of the road with this team. We have gone through a lot and overcome many things to reach a 10-2 mark in middle school football. We shall miss all of them a great deal.
