Your trailer shouldn't be an afterthought. If you set it up to be convenient, weatherproof, a storage solution and perhaps multiuse it will make a huge difference to your sailing activity. Quick tie down systems, proper sized secure weathertight storage box, launching dolly tie down, mast raising system, mast cradle system, proper bunks, spare tire/tire iron for the size of the wheel nuts and boat guides/rollers are all part of a good trailer. Regular maintenance of the wheel bearings and tires can stop breakdowns on the road. Lighting systems are not to be neglected but should be part of your annual maintenance and checked before every road trip. A tongue jack dolly takes away the back strain and will allow trailer movement without a vehicle. Check around the welded areas for stress cracks. Check your springs for broken parts. When heading out on the highway check the tightness of the tie down straps and especially if it rains. You don't want your boat bouncing up and down on the trailer at every bump. Whenever you stop on a long trip check the tires for proper inflation and feel the hub of the wheel to see if they are getting hot (wheel bearing issue). Remember to flag the end of your mast if it sticks way past the end of the boat.
Your launching dolly if you have one will make a large difference to boat handling off the water. All catamarans benefit a lot from using a proper launching dolly. Also crews sailing larger catamarans will find using a launching dolly a huge time saving benefit.
