The picture above shows a catamaran ready for the road. The rudder system has been removed and the mast doesn't protrude much past the transoms. The mast is also fairly high at the trailing end and is visible to drivers who are behind the boat. If your mast extends well beyond the back of the boat be sure to flag it and possibly add a red light too. Removing the rudders reduces wear and possible damage. Note that the mast is supported well above the vehicle. Check your lights to make sure they are working properly before heading out.
If going between lakes be sure to pull your drain plugs and drain any water from your hulls. Clean the trailer of any mud or weeds so that you are not transporting invasive species between different bodies of water. Dry all your equipment including sails, lifejackets, wetsuits, etc as well. Clean, Drain and Dry everything!
A very good video on capsize technique is a good watch and should help you prepare for this likely scenario. Having your systems in place and a knowledgable crew will make a big difference in how successful you will be. Your boat also has to be prepared and the mast must be sealed!
