Son Of The Soil (মাটিৰ আপোন) observes the development of a conflict over a piece of land between a native Assamese Hindu landlord and an immigrant Bengali Muslim labor. The film tackles a politically sensitive issue surrounding immigration from the neighboring country of Bangladesh and how it has impacted the culture, economy and overall demographics of Assam. It looks at the social behavior operational at current times and dwells upon the question of inheritance of land - by an ignorant native or a hard working immigrant, who devoted his blood and sweat to the land.
It is an attempt to showcase the present- time tension from both the ends-the immigrants and the natives, and the “new-normal” surfacing eventually. The film is inspired by real events that have happened time and again and takes an observational standpoint in the subject and tries to see both the angles with neutrality.
This project is in its post-production stage.
