Past Projects
From our founding in 2016, the AIAA Branch at Stony Brook has been involved with a variety of projects. Here is a brief list of previous projects that our club had done:
International Hyperloop Competition
In 2017, the Stony Brook team created a design for International Hyperloop Competition and some members had the opportunity to compete at Texas A&M!
In previous years, AIAA competed in the Design/Build/Fly competition which held their competition in various locations across the globe. The goal of the competition is to build a fixed-wing aircraft to perform 3 missions. It's an interesting challenge, involving disciplines like aerodynamics, electrical engineering, and structural analysis.
Global Space Balloon Challenge
In 2022, AIAA competed in the Global Space Balloon Challenge (April 3-27). There were 3 categories: best picture, best design, and best educational initiative. However, we had our own goals and tried to send Wolfie to SPACE ... and also design a new type of high altitude solar balloon that is ecofriendly and doesn't use hydrogen or helium.
