Alex Herrera
President
Hi everyone I’m Alex Herrera and I’m a junior mechanical engineering major. I joined AIAA because I’ve always been fascinated by space and I wanted to launch my aerospace career. This past summer I was a mechanical engineer for the NASA L’SPACE Mission Concept Academy where we designed a climber that could look for biosignatures in caves on Mars. Since Stony Brook doesn’t have a formal aerospace program, my goal is to be able to give exposure to the aerospace industry to as many students as possible. One day I hope to work on Mars rovers and I hope to contribute to a greener aerospace future.
Shivani Shastri

My name is Shivani Shastri and I am a junior (Class of '24) studying Mechanical Engineering. I love aerospace! As a kid I always wanted to either be an astronaut or a pilot and that interest stayed with me until now. I really enjoy AIAA and I want to get more people involved, especially more girls. There are so many different types of events that there is something for everyone, whether it be career advancement or social events. As for my personal goals, I hope to get more exposure to and meet people from all different sectors of the aerospace industry! I also want to become an airline pilot so I am currently in flight school. I was also a docent at the American Airpower Museum which is how I started build model airships and planes as a hobby.

My name is Raees and I am a Junior majoring in mechanical engineering. I joined AIAA because I am interested in space exploration and the aerospace industry. My industry-related experience includes NPWEE and MCA from NASA L'SPACE academy. I am excited to meet everyone and see the outcome of the events we have planned!
Alan George

Hello! My name is Alan George and I am currently a Junior studying Computer Engineering (Class of 2025) and the new Treasurer for AIAA. As a kid, I always wanted to work for NASA as an engineer, and I believed becoming more active with AIAA could be the right first step towards achieving that goal. Ultimately, I want our club to continually grow and host exciting events about aerospace and become a resource for anyone on campus to learn more about the aerospace industry. Apart from AIAA, I also am involved in undergraduate research in machine learning and like to volunteer at my local church. I am thrilled to serve as the Treasurer for AIAA for this year and excited to see AIAA shoot for the stars!

Max Blakely

I'm Max Blakely and I'm a senior studying Mechanical Engineering. One of my favorite chilidhood memories was launches Estes model rockets with my dad and watching documentaries about the Apollo missions. I love that recently the field of Aerospace has been expanded with private companies launching payloads into orbit. I found AIAA in my junior year and was hooked when we launched bottle rockets. I think that more people should be involved in aerospace as it is a rapidly growing field and in my opinion the future of engineering. I'm looking forward to creating some fun and exciting events for both propective and regular members to enjoy!

My name is Eric and I am a sophomore studying mechanical engineering. I joined AIAA because I’m interested in aerospace. Apart from AIAA, I’ve competed in Earth Science Olympiad for four years and loved astronomy. I’m currently working as a research aide for the Center for Clean Water Technology. I’m excited to work on different projects and learn new things.
William Wells

Hi! My name is William and I am a senior studying Mechanical Engineering, as well as a member of the Honors College. My interests in the aerospace industry and launching model rockets propelled me to join AIAA. I have been involved with Stony Brook’s AIAA Chapter since 2021, and am looking forward to the Model Rocket and 3D-Modeling projects this year. Outside of AIAA, I am a mentor for the CEAS Peer Mentoring Program, a researcher for the VIP BEAR team, an active member of the Stony Brook University Orchestra as a violist, and volunteer at a local hospital.
Brandon Tang

My name is Brandon Tang and I’m currently a Senior pursuing a BE in mechanical engineering at Stony Brook University. I am the lead of Stony Brook's Rocket Team and AIAA's Student Launch Liaison. In terms of experience, I was a student aid intern at Mechanismic Inc. working with robotics, laser cutting and Arduino programming. I was also an aircraft conceptual design intern at NASA Langley Research Center supporting one of their conceptual aircraft designs in urban air mobility through parametric modeling and CFD. My interest and fascination with aerospace engineering and the aeronautics industry propelled me to join AIAA. I am most excited to engage in networking opportunities, work on interesting projects, and meet new people!
