Raffi is currently attending the University of California, Los Angeles, majoring in Microbiology, Immunology, and Molecular Genetics with the goal of pursuing medical school. He became a Health Scholar in September 2022 and, a year later, joined the COPE Leadership Team at AHGL as a Department Coordinator for the Cardiac Telemetry Unit (CTU). After six months in this role, he transitioned to Department Coordinator for the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. He currently stands as the Assistant Director of Departments for POD1, which includes, the Acute Rehabilitation Unit, Oncology Unit, 4-Medical Unit, and the Orthopedic-Surgical Unit. Raffi has had the opportunity to shift in a variety of units, including the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, Gastrointestinal Laboratory, and Emergency Department, among others. These diverse experiences deepened his understanding of the healthcare field's challenges and opportunities, guiding him toward areas he could fully commit to and genuinely enjoy.

Jacquelyn completed her bachelor's degree in Biology from Cal Poly Pomona. In June 2021, she joined the COPE Health Scholars program to enhance her healthcare experience. After serving in the program for more than a year, she assumed the responsibility of Cardiac Interventional Telemetry Department Coordinator. Subsequently, she aspired to expand her horizons and applied for the Assistant Director of Departments role. Her favorite departments to shift in are Labor and Delivery, the Psychiatric Acute Care unit, and the Emergency Department. In addition to being a Health Scholar, Jacquelyn works as a Medical Assistant at a doctor's office. She is currently dedicating herself to preparing for the MCAT and applying for medical school.

Noah is attending the University of California - Los Angeles, majoring in Biochemistry, B.S, and hoping to minor in Biomedical Research with a graduation term of spring 2025. He started shifting as a COPE Health Scholar at AHGL in August 2021. A few months later, Noah joined the COPE Leadership Team at AHGL as a Department Coordinator (DC) for the surgical telemetry unit (STU). During subsequent rotations, Noah took on responsibilities as the radiology, PTU, and labor & delivery DC. He currently stands as the Assistant Director of Departments for POD4, which includes the cardiac catheterization lab, labor and delivery, gastrointestinal lab, pharmacy, and several administrative departments. He volunteered his time at AHGL to ease the stresses of staff and patients by lending a helping hand and being present to speak with them. In doing so, he has learned about the patient's perspective and the scope of responsibilities of healthcare staff. Throughout his experience at AHGL, he developed a strong passion for supporting patients with compassion and fortified his decision to attend medical school. To immerse himself further into the healthcare setting, he worked as a medical scribe in the Northridge Hospital Medical Center (NHMC) emergency department from June 2022 to January 2024.
Hessed has attended University of California, Riverside, and received a Bachelors degree in Sociology/Administration Studies w/ a concentration in Financial Accounting in the graduating year of 2023.
Hessed has been a part of the COPE Health Scholars Program at AHGL since June of 2021. Initially, she started the program as a 3-month scholar, but near the end of the rotation, she decided to stay in the program. She has been in ARU, Ortho-Surg, Couplet Care, Labor Delivery, Emergency Department, Cath Lab, Oncology, Pharmacy, and has been floated to Post-Anesthesia Care Unit and Outpatient Department. She joined the leadership team as an Enrollment Coordinator from February 2024 to July 2024. Today, she serves as the Assistant Director of Enrollment.
Hessed aspires to become a registered nurse and is planning on applying to nursing programs in 2025.
Ali Saad is a senior at UCLA, majoring in biology with a minor in biomedical research. As a premed student, he is involved with COPE Health Scholars at Adventist Glendale, where he gains invaluable hands-on experience in the clinical side of healthcare. Through collaboration with medical staff across various departments, Ali has gained realistic insights into patient care and a deeper understanding of the medical field, fueling his passion for a future in healthcare.
Hello! My name is Ellen Edjhuryan and I am currently a COPE Health Scholar. I am a graduate from the University of California, San Diego, with a degree in Microbiology. I am dedicated to pursuing a career in dermatology. I am deeply enthusiastic about overall health and wellness, to achieve an optimal skincare routine and quality of life.

POD 1 - Acute Rehabilitation Unit Department Coordinator
Andre is currently attending the University of California, Los Angeles and is majoring in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology. He hopes to pursue medical school after his undergraduate studies. Andre became a Health Scholar in December 2024 and joined the COPE Leadership Team at AHGL in July 2025. Andre has had the opportunity to shift in various units, including the Acute Rehabilitation Unit, Orthopedic-Surgical Unit, and the Neuro Telemetry Unit. He plans on shifting in different units in the future so that he can learn more about what many of the units in the hospital entail in order to solidify his passion for medicine. Outside of COPE, Andre enjoys hiking, fishing, and traveling the world.
Emil Galoustian is currently a Biology major at UCLA on the pre-med track. He serves as the department coordinator in the Orthopedic Surgery department. where he has been involved since 2023. Spending the majority of his time in the orthopedic department has given Emil valuable insight and experience into the field. His experiences helping patients feel heard and cared for has given him great gratitude and further solidified his aspiration to obtain an MD and practice medicine. Outside of his academic and clinical pursuits, Emil enjoys cooking, traveling, hiking, and exploring the world.
Nevart recently graduated from USC in 2023 with a degree in Biological Sciences and minors in Healthcare Studies and Environmental Health. She is on the pre-medical track and joined the COPE Health Scholar Program in March of 2021, shifting in Surgical/Orthopedics, Oncology, Surgical Telemetry, Emergency Department, and most recently the Cardiac Catheterization Lab. Nevart took on the role of Oncology department coordinator as she notes her time shifting in the Oncology unit led to some of the greatest memories and experiences she's had as a health scholar. Her time spent interacting with patients and the amazing healthcare professionals at AHGL has helped her gain a clearer understanding of her drive to become a physician. A fun fact about Nevart is that she enjoys crocheting!

Ashley is currently attending Occidental College and is working on a Bachelor’s degree in Biology. She became a member of the Leadership Team in November 2024 as the Department Coordinator for the Neuro Telemetry Department. Ashley first joined the Health Scholars Program in December 2023. She’s been in Acute Rehabilitation, Orthopedics, and Cardiac Telemetry units. Through these different experiences, she has found different aspects of healthcare that interest her and found opportunities to further focus on those areas. After Occidental, Ashley plans to attend medical school and become a physician.
POD 3 - Critical Care Unit Department Coordinator
Mariana recently graduated California State University, Northridge and received her Bachelor's in Psychology. She joined the Leadership Team during the 2023C rotation as a Department Coordinator for the Emergency Department. She has shifted in Ortho-Surg, 4-Medical, Neurological Telemetry, Cath Lab, Cardiovascular Interventional Telemetry, Couplet Care, Labor & Delivery, and the Emergency Department. By shifting in these departments, she has solidified her goal of pursuing a career as a physician. In her free time, she enjoys playing the violin, going to concerts, and analog photography.

Sevak is currently attending California State University, Northridge and majoring in Psychology. He plans to complete his bachelor's degree in May 2025. He has been a COPE Health Scholars since February, joining the 2023A cohort. He joined the Leadership Team during the 2024B rotation as the gastrointestinal laboratory department coordinator. In his free time, Sevak enjoys traveling, spending quality time with family/friends and cooking/baking.
Ashley graduated from CSU-Northridge in Spring of 2023 where she received a Bachelor’s in biology. She started shifting as a COPE Health Scholar at AHGL in Summer of 2020. Ashley has shifted in the following departments STU, Nurse Staffing, Pre-assessment, ICU, Emergency Room, Couplet Care and Labor & Delivery. After spending various rotations getting to know the departments she shifted in, Ashley decided to join the AHGL COPE Leadership Team in 2023 as the Labor and Delivery Department Coordinator (DC). Her goal is to become a physician and is interested in Emergency medicine and OBGYN. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, photography and is constantly listening to music. Recently, she began working as the unit secretary at AHGL for labor and delivery.
Hasmik is a transfer student from College of the Canyons and is currently deciding between attending USC or Pepperdine University as a Human Biology major. She plans to attend medical school with the goal of specializing in either Oncology or Emergency Medicine.
She joined the COPE Health Scholar Program in 2023 as part of the 2023C cohort and has since gained hands-on experience in departments such as Oncology, Orthosurg, 4-Medical, Pharmacy, Labor & Delivery, and the Emergency Department. Through these rotations, she has gained a better understanding of patient care by learning from RNs, CNAs, and even shadowing ED physicians—an experience that has reinforced her passion for medicine.
Recently, she joined the COPE leadership team as a Health Records Coordinator on the Admin team and is excited to contribute to the program. In addition to her academic and clinical pursuits, she enjoys working on her research, which she recently published, and unwinds through some pottery-painting at Color Me Mine.
Mayla is currently attending Glendale Community College and is planning on transferring to a four-year university. She is working toward her Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry and has aspirations of attending medical school to specialize in cardiology. Mayla joined the COPE Health Scholars Program in March 2024 and advanced to the Leadership Team in November 2024. As the Alumni Coordinator, she is responsible for engaging program graduates, building connections, and supporting the alumni network. Throughout her time in the program, she has gained valuable insights and experience in various hospital departments, roles, and scenarios, fueling her ambition and passion for the medical field.
Inessa is currently a pre-med student at UCLA pursuing an undergraduate degree in Cognitive Science. Nico is currently shifting as a 15 month Health Scholar, and now beginning an exciting journey as AGHL scholar in the recruitment branch. He is currently a second year Neuroscience Major at UCLA, with the hopes to continue as a rising Pre-Veterinarian student, free writer of poetry and short stories, and prospective student researcher of neurological and addiction studies. Nico has three sisters, and a girl dog. He loves watching movies and playing pretty much any sport. His favorite book is "The Hobbit", and his music taste is similar to any soundtrack of a movie made in the 70s.
Eric is a third-year biology student at the University of California, Irvine. He joined the COPE Health Scholars program in 2023 to gain hands-on healthcare experience and currently serves as a Training Coordinator, where he helps guide and prepare incoming scholars for their roles and responsibilities at Adventist Health Glendale.
In addition to his role with COPE, he is actively involved with International Medical Relief (IMR), a nonprofit organization. Through IMR, he has worked alongside doctors and nurses to set up and operate ambulatory clinics for underserved villagers in the Armenian countryside. He aspires to attend medical school and is passionate about making a meaningful impact in healthcare.
Samantha serves as the Assistant Director of Projects and training coordinator. She graduated from UC Berkeley with a Molecular and Cell Biology major and Gender Women's Studies minor in 2023. She is working as a medical assistant at a neurology clinic and aspires to attend medical school and become a physician. She has been in the COPE Health Scholars program since December 2023 and joined the leadership team in April 2024. During her time in the program, she has shifted in various departments, including Radiology, CICU, Oncology, and Ortho/Surg, and participated in a variety of projects. She strives to create an inclusive learning environment during trainings and organize exciting projects that connect scholars with the Glendale Adventist community.
