How to Join/Register

New Athlete Assessments

Step 1: Sign-up for a swim assessment

New athletes must complete and pass a swim assessment prior to joining the team. Use this link to sign your child up for one of our two tryout sessions:

Please note that there is limited availability in each assessment session and sign-ups will close when we reach capacity, so be sure to sign-up quickly if you are interested!

Swim Assessment Requirements:

Step 2: USA Swimming & AGAC Commit Registration

If your child passes the swim assessment, you will be sent an email with links & instructions to complete the two online registrations required to be a member of AGAC. The first link is to register your child for USA Swimming and the second is to register & pay for your child's AGAC membership.

Step 3: Start practicing!

Once the registrations are complete, your child is cleared to begin practicing at the start of the season on Tuesday, May 21st!

Returning Athletes

Step 1: Complete Summer 2024 Club Registration

Athletes who have previously been a member of AGAC will have priority registration for the Summer season. The club registration link will be sent out to returning families via email & Remind. 

Returning Athlete priority registration period: April 8 - May 12, 2024.

If your child is a returning athlete and you do not register during the priority registration period, you may register your child during the standard registration period on a first-come, first-served basis. 

Please note, returning athletes who did not participate in the Fall or Winter 2023/2024 seasons will also be charged $90 to renew their USA Swimming membership (for 2024) and $50 to cover the yearly club administration fee after completing the club registration. These will appear as separate charges as those who participated in Fall 2023 & Winter '23/'24 have already paid these fees.

Sat, 7/6: AGAC July Blast Meet @ 11 AM, at AGHS

Sat, 8/3: Novice Championships @ Paul Nelson Aquatic Center (Santa Maria) - Last Day of the Season!

8/4: Start of Novice Summer Break - Fall Season will begin in mid/late August

Novice athletes are encouraged to participate in all meets this Summer, especially our team-hosted meets listed in RED at AGHS!

Practice Times

Between May 21st (start of the season) and June 9th, our practice schedule will fluctuate based on pool availability while school is still in session. During this period, practice times will vary on a week-by-week basis and an idea of when those practices will be are listed on the Google Calendar. We will aim to provide 2-3 swim opportunities per week until school gets out for summer, including an intra-squad practice meet to get ready for our Summer swim meets!

Please add the Novice Google Calendar so that you always have an up-to-date version of our team's practice & meet times. The Google Calendar will always be kept up to date with the current practice times, and practice schedules will be sent out weekly via email & Remind, so please be sure you are checking those frequently!

Communication

Remind App: Please join our Remind to receive text message updates regarding practice schedules, time changes and other team communication: Text "@agacnovice" to 81010 to join. All parents will be responsible for knowing any information sent out via Remind (practice changes/cancellations, swim meet information, job sign-ups, etc.)

Weekly Emails: Practice schedules and general team updates will be sent out on a weekly basis on Fridays via email and Remind. If you are not on the email list, please contact Coach Kevin - kevin.virnig@gmail.com. Any changes to the schedule after the weekly email has been sent out will be communicated via Remind, so please be sure you have joined (see above).

Summer Novice Team Pricing/Fees

Club Registration Fees:

$270 (if paid up-front, $15 discount)
3x $95/mo. installments also available (auto-billed on 5/21, 6/21 & 7/21)

Swim Meet Entry Fees:

The primary goal with the AGAC Novice program is to introduce athletes to competition and prepare them for the Age Group level & beyond of swimming competition. All athletes are encouraged to participate in swim meets, especially home meets that our team hosts @ AGHS.

Swim meets are billed separately, please budget an additional $35-45 per swim meet to cover meet entry fees (end-of-season championship meets may be slightly more).

USA Swimming Registration & Yearly Volunteer Program Fee (New Athletes & Non-Fall/Winter Returners ONLY):

New Athletes: New athletes must be registered with USA Swimming prior to their first practice - parents will receive a link to complete the USAS registration if their child passes their swim assessment. Upon registering with the club, you will also be charged the $50 yearly Volunteer Program fee which awards monthly credit for parents who volunteer at swim meets (charged once per family, once per year between 1/1-12/31). 

Returning athletes who did NOT participate in the Fall 2023 or Winter 2024 season(s): Will be charged $90 to renew their USA Swimming membership for 2024. Families of these athletes will also be charged the $50 Volunteer Program fee which awards monthly credit for parents who volunteer at swim meets (charged once per family, once per year between 1/1-12/31).

Returning athletes from Fall 2023 and/or Winter 2024: Both the USA Swimming & Volunteer Program fees have already been paid for this year.
