AGAC Directors
Kevin Virnig is the Head Coach of the Arroyo Grande Aquatic Club and Associate Head Coach for the Arroyo Grande High School swim team.
Kevin is an Arroyo Grande High School alum ('18) and prior to coaching was a 4-year varsity swimmer, 2-year captain, Pac-8 League champion and CIF Southern Section finalist during his AGHS swimming career. Kevin returned to the program as an assistant coach for the high school team in 2020 and starting in the summer 2021, led the reform of the Arroyo Grande Aquatic Club into what it is today.
In his time coaching the high school team, Kevin has been a part of four high school league championship winning teams and helped the program to top 4 finishes at the CIF-CS Division 1 championships in 2021 and 2023. He has coached individual league champions, league record breakers, an individual CIF champion and multiple CIF finalists and State qualifiers.
As the head coach of AGAC, Kevin has grown the program to incorporate a large number of high school and junior high-aged boys and girls and has led athletes to numerous Zone, Sectionals, Futures & National qualifications. A number of AGAC athletes have also gone on to compete at the collegiate level after graduating from high school.
Kevin is currently finishing up his undergraduate degree and plans to complete his teaching credential afterwards in pursuit of a full-time teaching & coaching position. From time to time, Kevin will travel to masters swim meets to represent the Masters Eagle Aquatic Team (MEAT). Through the sport of swimming, Kevin aims to make a positive impact in all of his athletes' lives, guiding them to better themselves as individuals through their passion and dedication for their sport.
Russell Peterson is the head coach of the Arroyo Grande High School swim team, as well as a General Manager of the Arroyo Grande Water Polo Club, and the founder of AGAC.
Russell came to Arroyo Grande in 2012 to become the head coach of the boys swimming and diving team at AGHS. Since then, the program won its first league title in 2014, and went on to win additional championships in 2015, 2016, 2021 & 2022. The AGHS boys placed in the top ten at the CIF-SS Division 2 finals in five out of the six years Russell coached them before moving to the CIF Central Section. Since that transition, The Eagles have placed in the top-5 at CIF three times. Russell has coached State qualifiers in 6 separate seasons, and coached two individuals and two relay teams to All-American status. School records have been broken 36 times in his tenure.
While coaching swimming at Arroyo Grande, Russell became involved in the water polo program as well. He currently serves at the AGHS Boys' head water polo coach, and led the team to their first ever CIF championship in 2022 as well as three straight league titles from 2020-2022.
Before coaching at Arroyo Grande, Russell was a volunteer assistant at his alma mater, San Luis Obispo high school, where he graduated in 2010. In his six years at SLO as a swimmer and coach, the Tigers won league every single year. Russell enjoyed a thirteen year competitive swimming career and swam for the SLO Seahawks as well as Puma Aquatics.
Russell earned his bachelors degree in history from Cal Poly in 2015, and his teaching credential from National University in 2019. He still swims frequently either at AGHS or with the Masters Eagle Aquatic Team (MEAT), and competes in meets occasionally. He believes that the greatest thing that can be taken from the sport are not times, but life lessons.
Brandi Pasquini is the Vice President and Treasurer of Arroyo Grande Aquatic Club and has served has one of the club's directors since the club formed in 2018. She is also the aquatics director for Lucia Mar Unified School District.
Brandi is an AGHS alum and has previously served as the head coach of the Nipomo HS Swimming & Diving program. Brandi is the meet manager for all AGHS dual & championship meets and is always willing to go out of her way to serve the swimming community.
