Welcome to my English Portfolio - Chapter 4 Recycling Fabric
In Chapter 4, we learned about recycling fabric. Our teacher asked us to reuse scrap fabric or leftover cloth and turn it into something useful, such as clothes, skirts snd head decorations
For this project, our class was divided into six groups. Group 1 and Group 2 were responsible for making male and female costume. Group 3 and Group 4 made female accesories or properties, such as headpieces and decorations. Meanwhile, Group 5 and Group 6 made male accesories or properties
I was in the male property group, and my task was to create s sortali, which is a tradisional batak head accesory worn by men
Our class decided to use the theme of batak people tradisional clothing. The batak traditional outfit comes from north sumatra, Indonesia, And it has many cultural meanings
The sortali is usually made from ulos fabric, which is a tradisional batak moven cloth. In batak culture, Ulos is very meaningful because it symblolizes warmth, bleassing and respect
To make the sortali, we used leftover fabric and shaped it carefully so it looked like the tradisional headband. even though we used recycled naterials, we tried our best to make it look similar to the original tradisional accesory
Though this activity, we learned that recycling can be creative and usefull. Old fabric that is usually thrown away can be turned into beautiful costumes and cultural accesories.
This project also helped us learned more about Indonesian culture, especially the tradisional clothing of the batak people.
