Companies and Organizations

Rail Barons:

Many railroad companies existed during the war. During the truce two companies began buying up the others and making land grabs in a race to the west coast. Those companies were the Pacific Railroad and the Boston Ohio Railroad.

Texas Industrial

Texas Industrial is the conglomeration of all the smaller railroads that crisscross the Republic of Texas. Through buyouts, partnerships, and intimidation Terrance Phillips was able to seize control over every railroad in Texas. Not only does Texas Industrial lay track, they also develop their own engines. Texas Industrial is responsible for the ground lines in The Junction.

Tech Companies:

Between the defense contracts and aether crystals technology saw a meteoric rise during the final days of the war and the decade to follow.

Tesla Engineering, Science, and Technology

The discovery of aether crystals was a boon to T.E.S.T., their facilities were continuously rolling out new products utilizing the crystal tech. When the Shockwave caused all of the energy crystals to pulse T.E.S.T suffered damages to their facilities and took a major hit to their productivity. Nikolai was able to recover from the Shockwave and begin building again, but the stigma of T.E.S.T. products being dangerous remains.

T.E.S.T. broadcasts wireless electricity across the Junction as a free service. The broadcast towers are temperamental and prone to brownouts in severe weather. The amount of power supplied is dependent on the individual reception antennas.

Edison General Electric

The competition between Edison and Tesla is by no means a secret. While not nearly as advanced as the products T.E.S.T. was producing EGE had a wider variety of products. With a more cutthroat attitude toward business deals Edison was able to grow his company bigger than Tesla's. EGE is quick to acquire any new promising engineers, they supply the Junction's university with adjunct professors to headhunt new graduates. Smaller tech companies get bought up by EGE.

Edison Consolidated generates electricity with the series of water wheels spanning the ravine between the two towers in addition to coal fired generators. Edison's power is hard wired so it won't cut out during storms, however the direct current means that the power is strongest when close to the generators. For a steep fee the wealthy nearby neighborhoods can have lines run to their buildings.

Darwin Labs

Darwin Labs developed a way to rapidly customize animals using a patented Accelerated Eugenics technique. Darwin Labs developed supersized guard dogs with keen senses, and other highly specialized animals for military and defense purposes. Darwin Labs have also developed super crops highly resistant to disease and insects while producing several times the yield of standard varieties. Darwin Labs owns a number of farms and ranches as subsidiaries.

Moreau Medical

Suspected of unorthodox surgical practices grafted body parts from one creature onto another. As proper grafting requires fresh donor parts for the transplantation. Moreau Medical is headquartered in The Junction free of any nation's scrutiny and ethics laws. Other clinics of Moreau Medical operate in secret in many other cities.

Some good money can be made by joining their Organ Donor's Club. The organs donated through the Organ Donor's Club don't even have to be your own.

Wright-way Flight Inc.

The Wright brothers' aeronautics company, specializes in heavier than air aircraft. They have models in both fixed wing and ornithoptic varieties. Their ultra-light hoppers are based off of Davinci's aerial screw and is used by the ultra rich to travel around roof tops in The Junction. The larger fixed wing craft have the endurance to reach other cities.

Militant Groups:

There are several private armies.

Shining Stars

The hired law of The Junction, the Shining Stars can also be found in some of the Free Cities. They operate in three tiers; brass, copper, and silver, representing the deputy's ability. A forth tier reserved for emergencies and private bodyguards of the extremely wealthy, the Gold Stars are an elite force. The Gold Stars often serve as unit commanders for squads of silver stars.

Private Irons

A bounty hunting and detective agency headquartered in The Junction. The founder, Byron Krane, served as a soldier for the CSA until the cease fire. During the truce he served as a spy for the Union. After the dust of the Shockwave hit he applied his skills as a hired gun during the rebuilding of The Junction. Once he became too old to "adventure" on his own he set up the Private Irons agency, recruiting younger guns to help make the wasteland safe again.

Avenging Angels

A group of religious zealots hell bent on purging the Americas of sin. They fully believe that the Shockwave was caused because god was upset with how far from grace man had fallen. They despise those who have defiled their bodies with augmentations, those who use supernatural gifts, and anyone who partakes in various vices.

Mafia:

While controlling a good portion of the Union's East coast crime, the Mafia has pushed influence into The Junction to take advantage of the lawless city. There is plenty of crime to be had in the Junction, and the Mafia manages the criminal activity on Stone Island.

Triads:

The Triads arrived at the new continent with the colonization force of the Empire. When the Empire joined the Junction peace treaty, the Triads followed spreading their influence. The Triads control the criminal activity on Long Island.
