Reflection:
I had no idea that there were so many different levels of cognition. It is really helpful for screening because you can gauge a better just right challenge.
This is important to know so you can find what tasks are appropriate and which ones aren’t which will help you form a better intervention.
To help personalize an intervention for the specific client. This will also help me as a future occupational therapy assistant to see the person's level of cognition to see if they would be safe to go home or need 24-hour care
It was fun and a great experience. Using the ACL tool was very helpful in assessing their level of cognitive ability. The client my partner and I assessed participated well but was only able to do the running stitch which would put him at an ACL 3.2.
Improve my communication skills with clients and understand how everyone has a different level of cognitive functioning.
Next time I do this assessment I would like to have the narrative more memorized so my responses were quicker and less robotic.
This helped me grow and step outside my box to work with clients and have them do a new challenge. It was challenging for me not to say good job you are so close to any encouraging words because the whole point of this test is to let them do the best they can by themselves.
