Volunteer Job Announcement: English Language Acquisition Classroom Assistant

About Us: The Adult Education Foundation of Blount County is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing educational and career opportunities for the county's underserved adults through collaboration with community agencies and partners. Our English Language Acquisition (ELA) program aims to empower individuals from diverse backgrounds by fostering language proficiency and confidence in communicating effectively in English.
Volunteer Position: English Language Acquisition Classroom Assistant
Time Commitment: We appreciate any amount of time you can dedicate. We also suggest volunteering on a regular schedule, such as on Wednesdays from 5-6:30, for example. We are also flexible and can accommodate other scheduling arrangements. Beginning in September 2023, class meets Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 5-8 PM at the Blount County Public Library.
Position Overview: As an English Language Acquisition Classroom Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting our ELA instructor and helping students practice their English language skills. You will work alongside the instructor during class sessions and assist students as needed to create a welcoming and nurturing learning environment. Your dedication and support will be essential in helping our students thrive and gain the language skills they need to succeed.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist the ELA instructor during classroom activities and exercises.
Engage with students to encourage active participation and practice in English conversations.
Help individual students or small groups with language exercises and assignments.
Foster a comfortable and inclusive atmosphere, ensuring that all students feel valued and supported.
Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to boost students' confidence in speaking English.
Collaborate with the instructor to develop engaging learning materials and activities.
Requirements:
Fluent or advanced proficiency in English language.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Empathy and a positive, encouraging attitude towards language learners.
Ability to adapt to various learning styles and individual needs.
Reliable and committed to the assigned schedule.
Preferred:
Prior experience in teaching or volunteering in a multicultural environment
