Science Fair Project
Science fair was a project I did outside of normal school work where I evaluated the effectiveness of recycling bin types among teens. I placed general recycling, single stream recycling, and slotted bins around the school cafeteria and recorded their use (number of items and sorting accuracy) over two weeks. I also did a survey afterwards to find out more about youth views on recycling. I then took my findings to the CT STEM Fair and the NHPS Science Fair also after doing some more experimentation.
I would rate myself an Exemplary in Citizenship and Responsibility. My consciousness for the environment is what inspired me to do this project. I understood an issue within our school community and nation and took action by communicating my findings. I made a contribution to my New Haven community by sharing an issue in our school system and taking on the responsibility to discuss it with who coordinates the waste in our district. I was able to demonstrate a sophisticated sense of a local/national issue and advocate for recycling regularly.
