"Firstborn Son"

A book begun by Adam in which were recorded the works of his descendants; also any similar records kept by prophets and faithful members since that time. Adam and his children kept a book of remembrance, in which they wrote by the spirit of inspiration, and a book of the generations, which contained a genealogy (Moses 6:5, 8 & 46). 

"And a book of remembrance was kept, in the which was recorded, 

in the language of Adam, for it was given unto as many as called upon God to write by the spirit of inspiration; 

And by them their children were taught to read and write, having a language which was pure and undefiled. 

Now this same Priesthood, which was in the beginning, shall be in the end of the world also. 

Now this prophecy Adam spake, as he was moved upon by the Holy Ghost, 

and a genealogy was kept of the children of God. And this was the book of the generations of Adam, 

saying: In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;"

"The Books of Chilam Balam are the sacred books of the Maya of Yucatan and were named after their last and greatest prophet. Chilam, or chilan, was his title which means that he was the mouth-piece or interpreter of the gods. " and "...the title of the present work could well be translated as [the Book of the Prophet Balam]" => the book of the Prophet Shilo... see JST Gen 50:24 => Shiloh is used 32 times in the Old Testament to refer to a location—a city and one other time to refer to the Messiah => "The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh comes, and unto him shall the gathering of the people be." (Genesis 49:10) => linguistic debate continues to this day about the precise meaning as others believe it may actually mean, “the rightful Messiah,” or “the Messiah of righteousness (Priest)”. "Now this same Priesthood, which was in the beginning, shall be in the end of the world also." (Moses 6:7)Joseph Smith's statement given in Nauvoo, Illinois on August 27, 1843, while the Nauvoo Temple was being constructed, Joseph Smith, the first president of the restored Church of Christ, taught, using Hebrews 7 as background material, the "Three Grand Orders" of priesthood:

There are three grand orders of priesthood referred to here.

1st. The King of Shiloam (Salem) had power and authority over that of Abraham, holding the key and the power of endless life .... The Melchizedek Priesthood holds the right from the eternal God, and not by descent from father and mother; and that priesthood is as eternal as God Himself, having neither beginning of days nor end of life.

The 2nd Priesthood is Patriarchal authority. Go to and finish the temple, and God will fill it with power, and [THEN] you will then receive more knowledge concerning this priesthood.

The 3rd is what is called the Levitical Priesthood, consisting of priests to administer in outward ordinances, made without an oath; but the Priesthood of Melchizedek is by an oath and covenant.

The Holy Ghost is God's messenger to administer in all those priesthoods.

Joseph Smith's statement given in Nauvoo, Illinois on August 27, 1843

DyC 107:40-42 seem to indicate that there IS a "patriarchal priesthood" within the Melchizedek Priesthood;

The order of this priesthood was confirmed to be handed down from father to son, and rightly belongs to the literal descendants of the chosen seed, to whom the promises were made. This order was instituted in the days of Adam, and came down by lineage in the following manner: From Adam to Seth, who was ordained by Adam at the age of sixty-nine years, and was blessed by him three years previous to his (Adam’s) death, and received the promise of God by his father, that his [Seth] posterity should be the chosen of the Lord, and that they should be preserved unto the end of the earth; (see Moses 7:50-64)

"What is meant by the command in Isaiah, 52d chapter, 1st verse, which saith: Put on thy strength, O Zion—and what people had Isaiah reference to?

"He had reference to those whom God should call in the last days, who should hold the power of priesthood to bring again Zion, and the redemption of Israel; and to put on her strength is to put on the authority of the priesthood, which she, Zion, has a right to by lineage; also to return to that power which she had lost.

The designation CHILAM (Shilo) BALAM is not a proper name but the title of a class of priests. (scribes) It is probable that every village in Yucatan, during the century succeeding the conquest, possessed a book to which this title was applied and which was compiled by a native priest who had learned the use of the Spanish alphabet. 

"The obscure passages and unintelligible phrases occur chiefly where the writer deals with ancient ritual or religious usage and are closely associated with a religious system which is no longer remembered and which even at the end of the eighteenth century was more than half forgotten, and in so far as it survived at all, was known only to the late representatives of an older priesthood whose business it was to keep intact the forms and ceremonies prescribed by ancient usage. This priestly cult made use of verbal formulas which were not in common circulation and which had a meaning only in connection with the practice of their profession. (Kohen)

Shilo-ah (Priest of Ah, or mouth-piece of Ah) is mentioned in the Books of Joshua, Judges, 1 Samuel, 1 Kings, Psalms, and Jeremiah and Romans 15:12 references this passage as a ruler who “arises to rule the Gentiles,” (2 Nephi 3:24) see also Isaiah 11:1, “the seed,” John 17:3, “the sent,” Ephesians 2:14, “the peaceable or prosperous one.”

Shiloh => שלה‎

The meaning of the word "Shiloh" is unclear. Sometimes, it is translated as a Messianic title that means He Whose [right] It Is or as Pacific, Pacificator or Tranquility (hebrew "righteousness") that refers to the Samaritan Pentateuch. The name of Shiloh the town is derived from שלה

DyC 113:6 - "thus saith the Lord, it is a descendant of Jesse, as well as of Joseph, unto whom rightly belongs the priesthood, and the keys of the kingdom, for an ensign, and for the gathering of my people in the last days."
