News editor decide what to to broadcast on television and what to print in newspaper. What factors do you think influence these decisions? Do we bacame used to bad news? Would it be better if more good news was reported?Â
News editors play an important role in deciding which stories are broadcast on television or published in newspapers. Their decisions are influenced by several factors, and the increasing focus on negative news has raised concerns about its effects on society. Although bad news often attracts more attention, I believe a greater balance of positive reporting would be beneficial.
One major factor influencing editors’ decisions is audience interest. Stories involving crime, disasters, scandals, or conflict tend to attract more viewers and readers because they are dramatic and emotionally engaging. As media companies depend heavily on advertising and competition, editors often prioritise sensational news to increase profits and ratings. In addition, some stories are selected because they are socially or politically important, such as economic issues, elections, or public emergencies.
Due to the constant exposure to negative stories, many people have become accustomed to bad news. Reports about violence, war, and disasters appear so frequently that audiences may become emotionally less sensitive over time. This can create fear, stress, and a negative perception of society. Some individuals even begin to expect negative events as a normal part of daily life.
In my opinion, reporting more positive news would be beneficial for society. Stories about scientific progress, acts of kindness, or personal achievement can inspire people and improve public morale. However, the media should not ignore serious issues completely. A balanced approach that includes both positive and negative news would inform the public while also encouraging a more hopeful and constructive outlook.
In conclusion, news editors are mainly influenced by audience demand, competition, and social importance when selecting stories. Although people have become used to negative news, I believe greater coverage of positive events would have a healthier effect on society.
