Shirley Ayuk-Takem, D.O, R.R.T grew up in Yaoundé, Cameroon and went to Saker Baptist College- Limbe for secondary school and Lycee Bilingue d’Essos for high school. Since the age of 3, she wanted to be a physician and a pilot, so upon arrival to the U.S, she enrolled and graduated from the University of Alabama in Birmingham (UAB) with a B.S degree in Respiratory Therapy and also the School of Osteopathic Medicine in Arizona where she graduated with a Doctorate in Osteopathic Medicine degree.

Her Internship and residency in Internal Medicine were done at St John Macomb-Oakland hospital in Detroit, MI suburbs. She is currently completing a Critical Care Medicine Fellowship in the Philadelphia/South Jersey area.

Currently she holds board certification in Internal Medicine from the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine. She is a member of multiple professional organizations and is passionate about patient care, health promotion, disease prevention and wellness.

When she is not busy caring for her patients, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, travelling, going to museums, leisure reading, going to the movies and going to the beach. She hopes to soon get some “free time” to finally take flying lessons and fulfill her other childhood dream of becoming a pilot.
