The Medical Assistant helps doctors by providing different patient care services and carrying out some medical procedures that have been assigned to them. They have a range of tasks related to patient care, including maintaining medical records, giving medications and injections, and measuring vital signs
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE
Helps in examination and treatment of patients under the direction of a physician.
Prepares rooms for patient examinations. Cleans rooms before and after procedures. Disinfects equipment and restocks supplies.
Helps and accompanies patients from waiting room and prepares patients for examination.
The job involves interviewing patients and recording their information in medical records. It also includes collecting all necessary medical data to help the doctor know the patient's needs. Also, the job requires ensuring that all charts and forms are prepared for the doctor's appointments.
This position involves taking and recording important information about patients. This includes measuring and recording their pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight, and height. Also, this role involves preparing patients for various medical procedures, tests, and x-rays.
Performs regular patient tests, collects and processes electrocardiograms, and gathers and processes blood specimens and urine samples.
Administers routine medications, injections, and vaccinations as directed by a Physician, excluding controlled substances. Observes and reports any negative reactions.
KEY SUCCESS FACTORS
Ability to correctly record patient information following organization rules. Familiarity with HIPPA rules.
The ability to observe and report any physical concerns in patients to the nurse or healthcare provider.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
We need someone with great people skills who can make patients feel comfortable and relaxed. You should have a friendly and approachable demeanor.
Ability to take instruction from a doctor.
Familiarity with medical charts and records.

EXPERIENCE:
One year of Medical Assisting or other direct clinical patient care experience in a healthcare setting.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSE:
Medical Assistant Certification NCRMA certification/ABR-- required. Acceptable certifications are RMA, CCMA, CMA, NCMA, or OE credentials is acceptable OR
Medical Assistants who recently graduated (within the last 12 months) from a Medical Assisting training program must obtain Medical Assistant certification within 60 days of employment. OR
Candidates/incumbents with one year of Medical Assistant work experience who do not possess Medical Assistant Certification must obtain Medical Assistant Certification within one year of hire date.

Qualifications
High school graduate or GED equivalent
Current, nationally recognized Medical Assistant certification or the ability to obtain the certification within 180 days of employment

Current BLS certification for healthcare providers (written exam and in-person assessment) at time of hire or within 30 days of hire

Responsibilities
The Medical Assistant (MA) participates in providing patient care at the appropriate skill level
They have a duty to provide a standard of care that meets or exceeds that of a reasonably competent and knowledgeable Medical Assistant
The MA performs duties within their scope of practice delegated by, and under the supervision of, a provider (TX) or physician (FL)
Position in this function organizes the clinical environment and provides support in patient care situations
Support includes but is not limited to assisting physicians and nursing personnel, including those skills listed under Job Functions below along with various other procedures under the direct supervision and responsibility of a medical provider
The MA assists in identifying patient needs or problems and communicating data to the provider or other members of the clinical team
The MA delivers quality customer service
Ensures policy and procedures are followed including infection control, privacy and confidentiality
Completes mandatory training
Performs all duties within the scope of a Medical Assistant’s practice
Operates diagnostic equipment (cannot interpret tests), remove staples from superficial wounds, changes wound dressing and obtains cultures, administers non-intravenous medication, performs simple specimen collection via noninvasive techniques and collects blood specimens via venipuncture or via capillary, performs EKGs
Performs quality control checks on equipment
Prepares and sterilizes medical equipment using the autoclave
Rooms patients according to policy and procedures, prepares patient for examination
Records patient care documentation in the medical record accurately and in a timely manner
Coordinates patient care as directed by physicians, company standards and policies
Respects patient confidentiality at all times and treats patients with courtesy and respect
Organizes exam and treatment rooms, stocks and cleans rooms and sterilizes instruments
Practices standard infection control precautions
Telephone and in-person screening limited to intake and gathering of information without requiring the exercise of judgment based on clinical knowledge
Supports and follows Standard Delegation of Orders (SDO)
Performs all other related duties as assigned
