Five Reminders: The organization also promotes effective and psychosocial well-being with recommendations such as
(1) “Don't separate kittens”
(2) Clean daily! “STOOP to SCOOP the POOP.”
(3) “Provide hiding places”
(4) “Provide running water.”
(5) “Slow, Low, 2-5-5”:
(a) approach a cat SLOWLY, (b) stop 2 feet away,
(c) hold your hand at least 5 inches from the cat’s face, and (d) wait 5 seconds.
Let's add some information to each reminder
(1) “Don't separate kittens” See the Manifesto
Have you seen a mom cat with her babies before humans come to separate them? Keep kittens together.
(2) Keep your home clean: “one litter box per cat” You can imagine that sharing a litter box of sand with another person would be annoying, especially if the pan is cleaned only once a day. “Add an extra litter box.”
Have you seen the dirt and bacteria that hides in carpet? “When you see a disturbed litter box, STOOP to SCOOP the POOP.”
(3) “Provide safe hiding places” and high places to rest (shelves, cabinets or a cat tree).
(4) “Provide running water with a cat fountain.”
Cats prefer clean water. Do the cat a favor by cleaning the fountain daily.
and
(5) (5) “Slow, Low, 2-5-5”:
a) approach a cat SLOWLY from the front and get on your knees, (b) stop 2 feet away, (c) stretch and hold your hand at least 5 inches from the cat’s face, and (d) wait 5 seconds.
If the cat does not respond, then pull away. Printing of this brochure was paid for by:
If the cat moves forward and looks down or presses the top of his head against your fingers, scratch the top of the head. If the cat approaches
you and keeps his head held high, scratch under the chin.
The four kittens that appear in this photo were born on August 19, 2020. They were offered to an animal shelter and Animals Come First, Inc., accepted the four kittens into the "Keep Kittens Together" campaign. Medical and food costs have been covered by ACF with the hope of showing that kittens who are raised together and stay together through adoption are more stable and more peaceful than cats who were separated from brothers and sisters.
