THE AFRICAN ORGANISATION FOR RESEARCH & TRAINING IN CANCER (AORTIC CONFERENCE)

The 14th AORTIC International Conference on Cancer in Africa took place in Dakar from 2 to 6 November 2023, bringing together multidisciplinary specialists from the global cancer community to reduce the impact of cancer in Africa. The objectives of the conference were to support, integrate, and facilitate evidence-based interventions and innovative programs towards the prevention and control of cancer in Africa.

We conduct cancer research and clinical trial monitoring.

This is to ensure high-level standards and excellence in cancer research.

We develop policy.

We do this by conveying and communicating scientific findings to policymakers to support evidence-based decision-making and develop policies to inform government decisions related to cancer control.

We provide cancer research grants and funding.

We do this by investing in creative people and transformational cancer research by awarding cancer research grants.

We mobilize funds.

We do this by raising funds for cancer research. Every coin matters.

We educate.

To ensure that Uganda has the necessary skills, funding, infrastructure, and regulation for conducting world-class cancer research.

We create evidence-based policies.

We are working with people affected by cancer, civil societies, and research institutes around the world to grow a policy evidence base for preventing and controlling cancer in Uganda and create cancer awareness and health living among different populations.

We are capacity builders.

We build capacity and empower health institutions, public health specialists, lawyers, policymakers, and other leaders to use the law as a powerful tool to prevent and control cancer and to develop, implement and defend laws that address careers in Uganda.

We protect the rights of people affected by cancer.

We identify and address local law gaps by raising awareness, advocating for better access to affordable and quality health care, supporting services like counseling, and supporting increased funding for cancer research to develop more effective treatments.
