The Pair Programming was developed to allow students to help each other. Underachieving students from the classes were identified based on the lecturer's observation in the classroom and based on the formative test results. Each of these students were then paired with another well-performing student. The pair met once a week for 2 hours to discuss concepts and related questions.
One of the reasons for the introduction of this programme was when I understood that a lecturer's method might not necessarily be effective for all students. It is my opinion that a good educator should acknowledge their own limitations and seek help when needed. As such, students were paired with each other so that they could address novice misconceptions better and help to improve their conceptual understandings.
